Regarding Paris

Welcome – not an original idea, I know, to start a blog, but I wanted to have an open notebook of sorts to chronicle my two-month stay in Paris with my family. We’ll be joining Stephen as he covers Paris for a magazine assignment.

I’ve traveled to Europe a lot. I’ve traveled with the children a lot. I’ve not traveled with the children to Europe. The plethora of offerings presented by the City of Light seem endless at this point, while the hazards of spending a lot of time in close quarters seem far away. I have in mind salted caramels in paper bags while walking along St. Germain, long, sun-drenched afternoons in tulip-laden parks, actually lingering over paintings in the Louvre, sketching in our Moleskins as the sun sets across the Seine, rolling our eyes in ecstasy while biting into pain au chocolat from the neighborhood boulangerie…and did I mention salted caramels? Or pain au chocolat, maybe this time at that cafĂ© in Place des Vosges? (We all have our weaknesses – Joshua has already indicated that his might concern crepes covered with what has been described to him as chocolate pudding. Rachel is not so specific yet but keeps remarking on pictures of confectionary delights in guidebooks so I think we’re all on the same page. She is however concerned that the green grocer may not understand her and hence she might not get the right number of apples or be able to purchase a pineapple. I am not sure what we are going to do with said pineapple, I’ve not asked.)

My fears have less to do with pineapples and more involve shivering in an unexpected cold rain while trying to find the street with a metro stop, having skipped lunch and forgotten a map…

So we leave 14 April. We’ll be at the edge of the Marias, not far from the Bastille metro stop. Wedged between the street of motorcycle stores and the street of camera stores. I do love my husband as you can see by my choice of apartments. Ours will overlook the rue des Tournelles. We’ll try to avoid any jousting incidents. (See I will impart some history as well.)
